Like a Storm - Opening up a brilliant night!!!

February 16th 2016
London, Electric Ballroom, UK

***1/2

The Brothers are back in London!!!

Like a Storm ***1/2 are a very good band to find opening up a show, and I really can't see why they are on first... well on a normal day. I would say this but today every band on the bill is really strong from headliners Escape the Fate to main support FVK (Aka Fearless Vampire Killers) and hopefuls New Years Day. Like a Storm have brought a Hell of a lot of fans with them though, and you can see New Zealand flags all around the venue of the London, Electric Ballroom in Camden.

Like a Storm is a modern day Rock / Metal band. that have mixed up traditional values with a slight Metal sound... think a more Classic Rock version of Black veil Brides with a mix of Silverchair and American Rock in the boot.

Their music videos and album tracks are a little bit more Metal than their live show, and I have to admit I think I like more. Saying this their live show is really polished and their musicianship is perfection. And for me if you have this the rest will come.

They have a gimmick of the sound of the Didgeridoo in their music, and I think it really works and is something unique to them. But I wish they would go more full on with their show and make it a little bit more crazy and not announce different instruments and things they do on stage, they don't need to do this and think they would come across better if they didn't do this.

But I have to say they really relate well with the crowd, and have them under the palm of their hand. This is a real plus for them, because with fans you get bigger and grow with size and this could lead to Like a Storm doing their own headline tour later in the year.

They do something really nice mid set, when they get all romantic with their track 'Break Free' which is a real American Rock song. Guitarist Matt Brooks takes over vocals from his brother Chris on this, showing great versatility and showing that he can also sing really well and could have done lead vocals in his own right.

I really like this song, it's well written and could be a big radio hit on American Rock radio... but maybe should have been added to a longer set and not to the set tonight. Yes! it's a little out of place, unlike the three numbers at the end of their set which that really stands out and are right for this concert.

'Become the Enemy, Wish you Hell' and 'Love the way you hate Me' are all very strong numbers, but I am sad they left out the likes of 'Chemical Infactuation' and 'Never Surrender'. Either of these tracks would have been perfect for the bands set for this show, in my opinion.

They close their set with probably my favourite of their tracks 'Love the way you hate Me', which is a song where the band show what they can do when they have put their mind to it. It is heavy and slightly more Metal, and goes where Bullet for my Valentine ventured in the early days... so really stands out. So I recommend this as the first track that you check out, if you don't know the band well. This song also comes across really well on the live stage, and really get's the crowd going.

I really enjoyed Like a Storm's set (which was far too short) and would go and see them again, especially if it was their own headline show. The only thing that I would say about tonight's performance is they play it a little too safe, and I like bands that have more of edge and go out of their comfort zone.

I think the band have it in them and I am sure I will see that from them in the future as they evolve and I really enjoyed their last album 'Awaken the Fire', which was really strong. The record before is also not to be over looked, 'The End of the Beginning' is a really strong album as well... so check it out.
