Rubylux- Are going to be the next big Pop Rock band!

October 8th 2013
London, 100 Club, UK

****1/2

Step back Lawson here is Rubylux!

Rubylux ****1/2 are Radio 2's favourite new band and after two songs in I can see why, they have some great material that really grows on you. Tonight they are playing the 100 Club and the venue is slowly filling up so their is a good crowd to catch Rubylux before the mighty Spacehog will grace the stage after. The band like Lawson all look like the could be male models so no wonder their is quite a few girls in the crowd paying attention to them, well all the band accept for the keyboard player, who looks like someone's dad they have invited along for the ride even though I don't think he is that old. I think maybe it's the flat cap that makes him look this way and if they jazzed him up a little he could look like he should be their which he does not at the moment.

This is an act that delivers great well written Pop Rock songs to you in a catchy package as shown in opening number 'The World goes Quiet' which is a song that seems to mix influences from Lawson, Coldplay to Keane. The riff at the beginning of the second track in their set 'Order me a Double' reminds me of The Rasmus and the melody has a Emo feel to it but all packaged in a Soft Rock killer of a track. It has a great groove that goes through the whole track and the lyrics are really catchy so you find your singing it even though you have never seen this band before and don't know the words.

They continue their set with a slightly older song 'Inside' off their first album 'Fake Control' that was released in 2010, I didn't know they had been going that long and their first album is equally as good as their new one. I have no idea why this band have kind of slipped through my radar because know I am totally in love with them. The music is really great and their well written songs really stick in your head, so no chance of forgetting them you will know every lyric very quickly. Also I am a big fan of Beatles covers I think often they are much better than the originals and their version of 'Eleanor Rigby' does not fail to impress it is one of the best attempts of the song I have ever heard. Yes it is up their with the Industrial Metal version done by Marilyn Manson sons Godhead who released it quite a few years ago.

They continue their set with their new single 'I don't want Paradise' a song that Radio 2 have really been playing, yes the song is catchy but for me I prefer some of their other material even though this is a great song. This song does remind me a little of Maroon 5 and am sure it will be a big hit. They end the set with 'Black sun needs Sparks' the second track off their new album that is also called 'The World gone Quiet', this song is a little epic and has a slight Prog Rock feel to it even though it is not strange enough to really go into this genre. It sounds in places like a couple of album tracks by Good Charlotte when they were trying to do their epic thing but the vocals are a lot better. I have since seeing them purchased both albums and I will be really keeping an eye on this band and I can't wait to see them again/ I think they are going to be huge very soon, so it was nice to see them in the small venue of the 100 Club in London a venue that has seen all the legends in Rock play over the years including The Rolling Stones.
