Rammstein - Angst

Maybe the best Rammstein single in years

Rammstein are a band that I loved at their start of their career with the early album releases 'Herzeleid', 'Sehnsucht' and even 'Mutter'. But fell out of love with them, with recent years. They became a bit too commeriial for me as a die hard Industralist, and some of their songs just didn't grab me as much as previous releases. Often with some of the album tracks for me being much better than the singles, I think it's songs like 'Pussy' and the joke videos started to put me off. Ok they always had some joke type songs, like even on the album 'Sehnsucht' they had the track 'Buck Dich'... but they did not out weigh the brilliant content with songs like 'Spiel mit Mir', 'Du reich so Gut', 'Links 2,3,4' and 'Mein herz Brennt' being stand out tracks in my opinion for the bands early work.

I think I stopped going to see Rammstein when people where going on about the fire, and couldn't name one song by the band. I know this was not the bands fault, but it hard to enjoy a show when you just have a bunch of idiots next to you... screaming for more fire. Maybe I am sounding a little harsh, because non of the songs are bad... they all have some merit. But lyrical content for me as a writer is really important and songs made me cringe at times. So I was really happy that with new single 'Angst', they have gone back to Rammstein at their best. It is a really great track with lots of layers, that take you back to some of their ealier work.

I think Rammstein have decided to drop the gimmicks a little bit, and going back to what they do best. Which is a steady beat Industrial Metal track, and that's what I want to hear from Rammstein. The video stylistic is really good, and I liked the start of it, but they go back to the gimmicks a little again... which I don't like so much. But it is a striking video, and I really think it will grab peoples attention. It's a little futuristic, and you are made to wonder a little what it is all about. You can see this video at the bottom of the page, so please take a look and tell us what you think of it we want to know.

There are not many bands that do what Rammstein do, the closest I can say is Eisbresher and Combichrist. And they don't do it quite like Rammstein, they are a big band made for stadiums and worshipped in their country of origin Germany. I love the Rob Zombie (White Zombie) esq. riff at the beginning of the track, that breaks into the distinctive vocals of Til Lindemann, from start to finish this is a great track. It has the classic Rammstein chorus' and lyrics that actually mean something.

It's nice to see Rammstein back to their best, this is a real dance floor filling track. Ok it's simple in places, but I think that is what makes it great, a long with the haunting keyboads which for me make the track a long with the brilliant riff that goes throughout the track. This single actually makes me want to listen to Rammstein again, and to check out their new album 'Zeit' because if it's as good as this track I'm going to love it.
