Flat Earth - None for One

The music isn't as flat as the name

Flat Earth have just released their new album 'None for One', on Friday 9th of November on Drakkar Entertainment. Flat Earth consists of Niclas Etelävuori - Bass (Ex-Amorphis, Kyyria) , Anttoni Pikkarainen - Vocals, Mikko "Linde" Lindström - Guitar (HIM) and Mika "Gas Lipstick" Karppinen - Drums (HIM). Don't be turned off by the name, Flat Earth's debut album is full of surprises and does not disappoint.

Catchy riffs come out of nowhere and take you by surprise. It's an eclectic mix of genres that come together quite beautifully. The quality of the production is immaculate. The arrangements are inventive and unique. The vocalist Anttoni luckily took the best part of the 80's and used them to his advantage,  because he sings with passion on every song... and it really does show that he has put all his feelings into every song. 

'The Glow' stands out vocally, on the album.  It showcases the range and depth of the lead vocalist Anttoni Pikkarainen again.  And Mika "Gas" Karppinen handles percussion like a seasoned bull fighter, showing he really has gathered so many skills playing with HIM. The introduction to 'Noble Swine' will get it's hooks into you before the song has really began, and is a track that grows on you the more you listen to it.

Mikko "Linde" Lindström handles lead guitar beautifully mixing melodic riffs with hard edged guitar playing passion. The musicianship of the aforementioned members does overshadow the playing of Niclas Etelävuori on bass. After the performance of everyone else the bass comes in as an afterthought and could be more creative. 

But that doesn't take away from the overall album.  Overall, it's the type of music I would like to hear more often on the radio, because it's unique, passionate, and full of energy. I didn't want to mention it too much, because I think this record stands out on it's own. The former members of HIM and Amorphis really do come across as new and poignant on their debut album 'None for One'. Flat Earth are worth giving five minutes too, you will stand by the trolly in the supermarket, and just fall in love.
