Eades - Delusion Spree

Eades just Brit-Rock, pure and simple!

Eades are a five piece Leeds based band showcasing all that’s cool about modern age Indie music, and their new album 'Delusion Spree' is their vessel for doing that. Their Punk Rock routes are really starting to cause a stir and after listening to the album I can see why, Eades just Rock, plain and simple. For a debut album this is very good, and makes you wonder what else these guys could produce going forward. This sounds very like music released in late 90's early 2000's, similar to a lot of the bands that made British Rock great.

Turning Eades up loud turned out to be a pleasure, certainly worse ways to stroll through life. I get the impression they had set a high bar with the success of previous singles and the pressure was on to live up to their reputation by releasing a great album. The band recorded an impressive sixty songs within their first year despite being unable to perform live due to the pandemic, that is a lot of songs. Eades was put together by lead Singer / Guitarist Harry Jordan and his best friend Tom O’Reilly (Guitar), Sam Wilde (Bass), Dan Clifford-Smith (Drums) and Lily Fontaine providing vocals and percussion. The name Eades is a tribute to Harry Jordan’s Grandfather Les Eades who gave him his first guitar when he was nine.

The twelve track album contains songs that have potential to be future anthems, you can just hear them in your head being played on mainstream radio or when you went to the football. These songs could be the soundtrack to people's lives they are that good. Take the title track 'Delusion Spree', it's a song that just get's in your head. I don’t think they will have much trouble selling out venues in the future, this is a band that people that will want to see. The album has a very fresh authentic sound to it, you can hear and see this in their performance video on YouTube from Rowland Road WMC, Leeds.

Dan Clifford-Smiths drumming is excellent, on every track on the album really having a big impact on the bands sound. Influences include The Libertines, The Strokes, The Clash and The Buzzcocks combined with Eades own modern twist, but I would say they have also taken influence from Art Brut, Hard-Fi, The Ordinary Boys and Idles to name a few. They give out something new, but they also have plugged into the Retro sound of so many bands... and this is a really popular thing to do at the moment.

They have recently released a music video for ‘A Welcome Goodbye’ you can watch on their YouTube and at the bottom of this page. It’s a great track and really showcases the energy this band has, and makes you want to check out more. My personal favourite is the title track for the album ‘Delusion Spree’, the track that the album is named after is just something special. So I can understand why they named the album after this song, also I think their is a lot of deluded people around at the moment... so this is the perfect title for their album. Other great songs on the album include the singles 'Reno' and 'Ever Changing', but I think the two songs I mentioned before these are the standout tracks.

I think its fair to say this band like to experiment and haven’t quite found one particular sound, but I don't think they go off what Eades stands for as a band. The songs do feel like they belong on the album, they are not out of place. They are clearly happy to try a bit of everything and I think it works, and I think this is what makes Eades and their album 'Delusion Spree' so promising and great. If you have not heard this, you must go and buy yourself a copy, because you won't be disappointed.
