Battlesnake - In an intimate venue maybe for the last time

****1/3
Entering the layer of the Snake

Battlesnake **** are one of the hottest Metal bands around at the moment, going from strength to strength with iconic festival appearances. If you are searching for the modern-day real Spinal Tap, that brings the fun back into Rock and Metal, you might just have found them. This time being from Australia. They came elegantly in robes onto the stage, singer Sam Frank being the high Priest with giant golden horns, ready to do a ritual to the Snake Gods and summon the demons from underneath. As they come out, a backing track plays 'Dawn of the Exultants', off an album of a similar name.

Then opening into one of the band's new singles, 'I Killed Satan', which has a killer video to accompany it. Is a great live track, and one of the songs that went down the best tonight. This song is so catchy, and so big and an instant classic that I am sure we will be hearing from years to come. The next track 'Motorsteeple', is a real groover that you can imagine Judas Priest or Zodiac Mindwarp and the Love Reaction playing. It has the old Heavy Metal classic vibe to it, and the rhythem is so good it makes you want to go to a European festival on a drinking binge.

Maybe that is why they play the horribly titled 'I am the Vomit', straight after it, which brings you horrific images of a night out that went wrong. And maybe that happened during their trip on the 'Motorsteeple', which is the band's 'Highway to Hell' moment. This is a band that is so tight, you can see they have been playing together for a long time, and they just get each other. Best shown on tracks like 'Murder Machine' and 'The Key of Soloman', which I am sure are hard to play.

They have so many great tracks, which include the namesake anthem 'Battlesnake', but it could be any of their tracks that you picked out. All are equally good, and all the band members have such great personalities. Each member is unique, which would make them perfect to make action figures out of. If GWAR works, then I am sure Battlesnake would work also. So hopefully we will get a range of them soon. I know they used to sell the Speedos that they wore on stage; did you get a pair of sweaty trunks from their merchandise booth?.

If you have just got into Battlesnake then you might know their epic song 'Nightmare King', which was recorded at the beginning of their career. I have to say I have played this song countless times... every time rockin' out to it at the same time. Even if I am on the train, so basically making a twat out of myself. Ending the set with a frantic version of the AC/DC song 'Let there be Rock, ' which included band members getting naked and going into the crowd and jumping around with fans. And basically destroying the stage; it looked a right mess at the end of their set.
